The Wind Factories: art blowing across the hills of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato

Alba has officially been named Italy’s Capital of Contemporary Art 2027 🌿
A recognition that celebrates a unique territory — one that unites wine, gastronomy, landscape, and now art in an ever-stronger dialogue between nature, culture, and innovation.

The announcement was made in Rome, at the Ministry of Culture, where Minister Alessandro Giuli proclaimed Alba’s victory… to the notes of Vasco Rossi’s song “Albachiara”.
A moving moment that perfectly captured the spirit of a city that is visionary, creative, and alive.

The winning project, titled “The Wind Factories” — inspired by a work of the visionary artist from Alba, Pinot Gallizio — aims to bring art out of museums and into the landscape.
It will be a widespread project stretching across Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato, transforming the region into an open creative platform where contemporary art becomes a space for connection, identity, and wonder.

Contemporary art among the Langhe hills

Anyone visiting the Langhe can already feel this new energy, where art interacts with the UNESCO vineyard landscapes.
In Alba, in Piazza Ferrero, stands the monumental sculpture by Valerio Berruti, who also created the poetic murals in Monticello d’Alba and the delicate figures adorning the streets of Verduno.

Also in Alba, Samuel Di Blasi designed “Porta di Luce” (“Gate of Light”), a symbolic passage that opens the city to the contemporary, while his unique “Nocciola del Belvedere di Pepè” in Grinzane Cavour pays tribute to one of the region’s most iconic fruits — the hazelnut — turning it into an artistic symbol.

In Brunate (La Morra), the famous Barolo Chapel by Sol LeWitt and David Tremlett remains a must-see for those who seek the magic of color and light among the vineyards.

In Neviglie, The Traveler by Jean-Marie Appriou — a bronze Viking ship — seems to sail through a sea of vines, while in Roddino, the installations by Liam Gillick and Hito Steyerl explore the boundaries between perception, space, and landscape.

And finally, the stunning Contemporary Art Park of the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation in Guarene, where sculptures and installations by international artists continue to engage in a dialogue with nature and reshape the way we view the Roero hills.
